A rare animal is a well written, opinionated real estate blog, but an article in yesterday's Sunday Times New York section (The Bigger Houses Are, The Harder Prices Fall) about real estate in Greenwich, CT, turned me on to Christopher Fountain's blog, "For What Its Worth." Christopher isn't shy about about opinions on his local market, and his approach is refreshing. If you like this blog, Christopher's is also worth checking out.
David,
Comparing Greenwich, Connecticut to Sullivan County?
Forget apples and oranges - how about beluga and bologna?
David! What ARE you smoking?
While you're coming up with weird analogies, here's a nifty site where you everybody can go down memory lane...

No, I'm not comparing Sullivan to Greenwich, for heavens sake. I just thought it was a good blog and thought some folks might, just might, be interested in reading it.

Oh...O.K.
However, here's an article in today's Times Herald Record about an hobbyist in Briscoe Lake in the township of Liberty / Bethel - at...

Far, far away from Greenwich.

An interesting sidebar about Greenwich real estate. I work in Greenwich and there's a peculiar pattern here. You see a for sale sign go up, then the house is sold, usually on about 4-5 acres of property, then you see house being torn down and rebuilt. Happens all the time, it's still happening and while construction and new home sales may have dropped there are plenty of renovations & new construction going on. One needs only to drive down North street to see at least 10 massive mansions being plopped down on 4 acres with big stone walls hastily being built by industrious immigrants.
Next spring will come the thousand dollar specimen trees and moon lighting that is all the rage. Followed by an army sod layers, garden designers (I'm already at two of them!), irrigation specialists, arborists and well you get the idea.....
You can smell the money in the air, even now.

If America turns into one big Gilligan's Island, then I want to be Ginger.

Speaking of DK - what happened to our host?
And... where is the December 2008 report?

Very refreshing to see our true land stewarts ( our farmers ) seeking renewable energy sources instead of raping and intoxicating the land like the gas men want to do.
The sun is the answer to all of our energy needs!

Here's a sign of the times. Maybe this is familiar to everyone else but it was a shocker to me. I go to the Monticello Mall Cinema to see Four Christmases one night. Me and my wife are the only one's in the theater.
