A reader kindly directed my attention to an article by Dan Hust in the March 9, 2010 print edition of the Sullivan County Democrat, "New Gas Leases Filed in County." (Sorry, no link as it's not in their online edition.) In that article, Dan reports that 4 gas leases were filed on March 2, 2010 in the Sullivan County Clerk's office. The 4 leases, covering 385 acres in Fremont, Delaware and Cochecton townships, were all actually signed last year in October and November, but not filed until March of this year. So there has been some leasing activity in the past year.
To "pa" who posted the 'cut and paste' blog post about Incline Village. I haven't released your comment here with the text from the other blog, because it's a cut and paste lift from another source without attribution. Please report with a link to the other blog, rather that copying the whole post into this blog. I think folks would be interested in it. Thanks. David

David -
Thank you for raising the important issue of horizontal gas drilling. In PA, there is a growing concern about the safety of local fracking. The potential threats to health and environment are increasingly of serious concern. The current Zimmermann versus Atlas Energy landmark case before the PA court - and future court cases will impact property values for years to come, wherever horizontal drilling occurs or is proposed. The bottom line, be careful where you buy your rural idyll.

Interesting article on Bloomberg.com with some good information regarding what chemicals are used in the fracking solution and why they use them. This is the first article I've seen that has given some insight into what is actually in the fracking solutions.
