The latest Existing Home Sales Report from the National Association of Realtors shows sales up 17.2% nationally in July 2013 over July 2012, with the northeast region clocking a 20.3% seasonally adjusted gain. Those numbers are huge. The median price jumped 13.7% nationally and 6.7% in the northeast.
Here in Sullivan County we haven't seen that kind of volume jump yet (July sales were up 11.4% over the previous year). Old hands in the business, who've been through a number of up and down cycles, say that second home markets like Sullivan generally lag primary home markets by six months on the way down and on the way back up. Given the pick up in buyer activity this summer, and the number of houses in deals, that year over year number could climb through the fall.
